Antenna talk 27 Oct 2010

Well, as you will know if you check the club programme, the talk of the evening was to be antennas for small gardens by GM0ONX  Len Pagnet.  Due to other commitments Len had the previous week postponed the eagerly awaited talk till another time, (unfortunately this was not communicated to the members – no pointing of fingers but you know who you are!!) so on the evening the room was full of guys looking for a talk on antennas.

Not to let the Club members down,  in steps Jim GM3UWX Stirling to take up the reins.  The topic was still to be antennas for small gardens, so he asks the membership what constitutes a small garden.  Bobby GM7 pipes up – 18 feet by 28 feet.  Jim agrees that this is indeed a small garden, so sets about thinking.  He decided that a vertical antenna is about the best thing for such a postage stamp sized piece of grun, and so the talk commenced.  Going down the route of amateur radio enthusiasts being a tight lot – no denying that – he came up with some good ideas as how to put a station on the air with the minimum of outlay.  As for the exact content of the talk, well you should have been there, but it was a very thought-provoking rundown of some very simple ideas.  The members all thoroughly enjoyed Jim’s impromptu talk and he was thanked after his presentation by the assembled squad.

Details of the rescheduled talk by Len will be posted in the Club Programme section when they are known.
